“It has been a privilege to collaborate with Store Fifty-Two in sharing a variety of my artworks in such a magnificent public setting,” said Rachel Shuler. “I’m looking forward to sharing my process with visitors to the store on November 29 and highlighting the design concepts, how the works are created, and the techniques that are reflected in each piece.”
Shuler, whose artworks utilize acrylic media, metal leaf, and mica to give a reflective finish that changes depending on the light in the room and the position of the viewer, has been featured at Celebrate West Hartford and various events across Connecticut and New England. Her distinctive work stands out for the uniqueness of each piece and the dynamic, interactive qualities.
“As viewers shift their position, the picture’s appearance visually changes,” she explained. “I intentionally weave metallic elements to provide a dynamic dimension to each piece, inviting viewers to engage and interpret beyond the surface. By introducing reflective components into my abstract paintings, I offer a literal shift in perspective — depending on their surroundings, viewers see the artwork in varying lights.”
She will be featured at the Slater Memorial Museum’s Artisan Fair in Norwich on November 8, the New Britain Museum of American Art Artisan Fair on November 23. and the Pratt Street Winter Artisan Fair in Hartford on Dec. 6. On November 15-16, she will be opening her West Hartford studio to the public in association with Open Studio Hartford.
Rachel Shuler earned a BSc from the University of Sheffield in Sheffield, England and studied Sculpture, Jewelry, and Photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
