About Us

Home to the Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival, Capital Classics was founded in 1991 with a simple mission:
To produce professional classical theater that is affordable and accessible to all members of greater Hartford community
To hire and compensate Connecticut-based artists
To employ a diverse pool of multicultural artists in every project

Our signature "Shakespeare under the Stars" program is performed on the grounds of the University of Saint Joseph each summer (with an indoor venue for rain) and is Connecticut's longest-running Shakespeare Festival. Ticket prices are affordable and no one is turned away for inability to pay.
