Guided Walking Tour The Odyssey of the Amistad: A Trail to Freedom

In 1841, Farmington welcomed 38 Mende people from Sierra Leone after they secured their freedom following the Amistad revolt. Hosted by the First Church of Christ, Farmington and supported by the town’s abolitionist community, their stay became an important chapter in Farmington’s history and the national movement to end slavery. Join us for a presentation on the Mende people and abolitionist-era Farmington, followed by a guided 1.5-mile walking tour to sites throughout the village connected to their stay.
