Meet Nick Gouveia, Co-Owner of Subcontain Central CT, a valued member of the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce.
In this edition of Member Spotlights, we share the story behind the business, explore what inspires their work, and highlight the impact they are making in West Hartford’s vibrant business community.

What inspired you to start (or lead) your business?
We saw a major gap in how waste is managed—especially at commercial and institutional properties. Traditional dumpster systems are inefficient, unsightly, and create ongoing issues with odor, pests, and excessive hauling costs. Subcontain was built to bring a smarter, cleaner, and more sustainable solution to the market. With systems used globally for over 35 years, we're introducing a higher standard of waste management for our local communities.

What problem do you solve, and who do you serve?
We solve the inefficiencies and challenges of traditional waste systems—such as frequent pickups, overflowing dumpsters, odors, pests, and wasted space.

We serve developers, property managers, municipalities, restaurants, universities, hospitals, and commercial property owners throughout Connecticut who are looking for a cleaner, more efficient, and cost-effective waste solution.

What is a milestone or moment you’re especially proud of?
A milestone we’re especially proud of is bringing a globally proven solution to our local market—backed by over 270,000 installations worldwide through our partner network. Being able to introduce a system with that level of success and reliability into Connecticut, while also securing our first developer-led installations and gaining traction with municipalities like West Hartford, is something we take great pride in as we continue to grow.

How do you engage with or give back to the local community?
At Subcontain, we believe success should also mean giving back. We are committed to supporting our local communities not only through cleaner and more sustainable environments, but also by helping families and individuals in need whenever possible. Whether through local outreach efforts, supporting community initiatives, or lending a helping hand during difficult times, we strive to make a positive impact beyond our business operations. Supporting the community that supports us will always be an important part of who we are.

What’s one thing people might not know about your business?
Many people don’t realize that Subcontain is a full end-to-end waste solution provider. We don’t just supply containers—we handle everything from design and planning to installation, service coordination, and long-term performance. Our systems also significantly reduce hauling frequency, which can lower waste costs by 40–70% in many cases.

How can fellow Chamber members best support or connect with you?
The best way to support us is through introductions to property owners, developers, or organizations that manage waste at scale. We’re always open to a quick 10–15-minute conversation to explore opportunities. Chamber members can also connect with us directly to learn how we can improve their own waste systems or properties.
