Meet Maria McNamara, creator of Maria Rose Authentic Italian, a valued member of the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce.

What inspired you to start (or lead) your business?
Every Sunday meant my Aunt Mary's spaghetti and meatballs — the best of both! It was a simpler time, just family and great food. Today, families are busy and grab-and-go foods are processed and full of ingredients you can't pronounce. I wanted to bring wholesome food back. My daughter has three boys under four — when she ran out of my sauce and tried another brand, my grandson knew it wasn't "Mia's". That said it all. My mission: Bring Tradition Back to Busy Families.
What problem do you solve, and who do you serve?
I serve busy families who want real, wholesome food but don't always have the time to make it from scratch. My Maria Rose Authentic Vodka Sauce is made with fresh, clean ingredients — no shortcuts, no mystery additives — just the kind of food that used to be made with love in someone's kitchen. I want every family to be able to sit down to a meal that feels like Sunday at Aunt Mary's, even on a Tuesday night.
What is a milestone or moment you’re especially proud of?
Getting my sauce onto the shelves at Hall's Market and Avon Prime Meats was a proud moment — these are beloved local institutions, and having Maria Rose Authentic Italian alongside their carefully curated products means everything to me. Being welcomed into the farmers market community has also been incredibly rewarding. Meeting customers face to face, hearing their stories, and watching them come back week after week tells me that what I'm doing truly resonates.
How do you engage with or give back to the local community?
Giving back is woven into everything I do. By selling exclusively through local, independent markets and farmers markets rather than big-box chains, I am intentionally keeping dollars in our community and supporting small businesses alongside my own. I also believe that cooking real food should be accessible to everyone — which is why I offer a free collection of 12 authentic Italian recipes via QR code. My hope is that families pick up a jar of sauce, scan the code, and cook together!
What’s one thing people might not know about your business?
Maria Rose Authentic Italian isn't just a product — it's a personal story in a jar. Every batch of my vodka sauce is rooted in the recipes and traditions passed down through my family. When you bring it home, you're not just getting a great sauce — you're getting a little piece of an Italian Sunday tradition that I hope will become part of your family's story too.
