Member Spotlight: Diabetes Plus with Dave

Meet David Oliver, Founder of Diabetes Plus with Dave, a valued member of the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce.
In this edition of Member Spotlights, we share the story behind the business, explore what inspires their work, and highlight the impact they are making in West Hartford’s vibrant business community.

What inspired you to start (or lead) your business?
I started Diabetes Plus with Dave because I’ve lived with diabetes for over 31 years and I’ve seen how many people struggle with it silently. I wanted to bring practical, easy-to-understand guidance to my community—so individuals and families can make better daily decisions, reduce stress around diabetes, and improve their long-term health.
What problem do you solve, and who do you serve?
I help individuals and organizations improve diabetes awareness and daily health habits. I serve adults living with diabetes and prediabetes through coaching and education, and I also work with groups (workplaces, senior centers, and community organizations) through wellness seminars and speaking engagements. My approach is practical and built around Education, Nutrition, Exercise, and Consistency—so people can make changes that last
What is a milestone or moment you’re especially proud of?
A moment I’m especially proud of is growing Diabetes Plus with Dave from personal experience into a business with real community reach. My collaboration with the University of Saint Joseph on the THRIVE 2026 project is a milestone because it supports the value of coaching and lifestyle change in a structured way. I’m also proud to have published DIABETES—Now What? The Real-World Guide, which gives people a clear starting point and helps simplify diabetes management.
How do you engage with or give back to the local community?
I engage with the local community through speaking, education, and collaboration. My goal is to help connect the dots between good information and real-life habits, and to build partnerships with local organizations that want to support healthier living. I also use my book and seminars as tools to spark conversations and encourage people to take small, consistent steps forward.
What’s one thing people might not know about your business?
One thing people might not know is that I’m not just teaching diabetes management—I live it. I’ve had diabetes for over 31 years, so everything I share is based on real-world experience plus education, not theory.
How can fellow Chamber members best support or connect with you?
The best way to support me is to connect and share my work with anyone who could benefit—friends, family, clients, employees, or community members living with diabetes or prediabetes. If your organization hosts wellness events, I’d love to be considered for a lunch-and-learn, workshop, or speaking engagement. You can also support me by referring people to my book, DIABETES—Now What? The Real-World Guide, and by following and sharing my posts online.
